Workshop on Object Loss

One strong and respected view of the human psyche is that we are essentially object seeking and object relating and object oriented species. Having a strong reliable stable object in early childhood is believed in this view to be the central anchor of good mental and physical health. Object presence, Object charactersticks and Object loss thus gain central significance in this context.

Object loss in early life can potentially lead to low ego cohesion and disposition to issues of anxiety, depression and in some cases psychosis or extremely abnormal conduct. One way to explain all personality disorders is to explain them as outcomes of early life object loss. The entire range of abandonment anxiety can also be explained and consequences of it mapped out using the concept of object loss.

Object loss compared to presence of the bad object in early life. Object loss in later life with a good presence in early life. Presence of the bad object in adult life with a good object presence in early life are all situations that are of great interest in psychopathology.

Interfacing Freud’s ideas of death instinct and neutralizing of the dark death energy with positivity flowing out of good objects in early life and mid-life crisis of decoupling of the two energies is yet another interesting idea for exploration in the context of object loss.

It is essential to have a foundation in Psychoanalysis to attend the workshop.

The workshop shall be of one day and participation can be in person or on skype/whatsapp/zoom/google meetup. Participants shall have to get registered by paying a fees of Rs 3500/-. Participants will financial constraints can discuss for a calibrated waiver on a case to case basis.
